IT Department | McKool Smith - Dallas, Texas October 2017 - presentSince transitioning into management in 2017 I lead high-level systems architecture design in support of our cloud-first strategy, while overseeing Network Operations. In 2018 I helped implemented project management processes to IT and aided our first PM in the role. In 2019 I helped forge strategic MSP partnerships to improve ROI in our M365 tenant and enhance our PC endpoint support systems. Additionally, I directed the upgrade of our AD tenant sync with Entra ID Connect, to expand device metadata into our Microsoft Tenant. I also migrated endpoints to a hybrid Intune/CM model for modern management. I developed our initial Cisco Viptela SDWAN designs, before moving it to a Palo Alto solution to simplify WAN complexity and costs. I authored two open-source PowerShell solutions for data migration and remote endpoint management. Through extensive automation and telemetry, via my decade-old Bash and PS script repos, I reduced systems operational costs while growing our scale & capability.
NETWORK ARCHITECT / PM
IT Department | McKool Smith - Dallas, Texas March 2008 - October 2017Lead network design and implementation projects for a leading U.S. Patent and Commercial Litigation Firm with nationwide sites. Designed and launched a multi-site virtualization and FC/iSCSI SAN infrastructure supporting 200TB of multi-tier storage, reducing downtime costs fivefold and enhancing service availability via a Tier-4 Data Center DR site in North Texas. Increased email and application uptime to “Five Nines” reliability by implementing Exchange cross-site DAG before migrating to O365/Exchange Online. Added highspeed Layer-2 links for alternate iBGP pathing, reducing DR site RTO. Co-developed SLA and Business Continuity strategies, which lead LAN topology redesigns and eventual migration from MPLS to DMVPN failover. Achieved higher network availability through stacked Cisco hardware with redundant management planes and strategic configuration, improving L2 and L3 network operations. Implemented Syslog, SNMP, and NetFlow monitoring to enhance security and performance visibility.
NETWORK ENGINEER
Information Technology | Baron & Budd - Dallas, Texas September 1998 - March 2008Designed and deployed EIGRP-based multi-site LAN/WAN for over 100 servers across multiple network segments in two data centers in TX and Louisiana. Scoped and managed multiple IT projects, coordinating with stakeholders in all levels of mgmt. Oversaw rollout of Windows 2000 servers and workstations, making B&B the first mid-sized Microsoft Enterprise in North Texas to do so, shortly after Y2K project closeouts. Reduced storage TCO by implementing Compaq StorageWorks FC SAN while enhancing ROI with outgoing EMC Clariion systems. In 2005 I reduced ops costs by decreasing power consumption by half by migrating company servers into vSphere. Designed KiXtart-based automation and GPO/GPP standards, lowering workstation support costs by nearly 50%. Deployed Microsoft SMS (later SCCM) for workstation inventory and endpoint / application lifecycle management.
